Domaine Clos du Caillou - The Rhone Valley
Ripe and Aromatic must-try wines
A top domaine in the Rhone Valley, they have evolved a stunning portfolio of organic and biodynamic wines - Côte du Rhône’s and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, grown on a delicate terroir located on "Les Cailloux" (little pebbles) and "Les Cassanets" (larger stones) which produce wines in the Burgundy style, elegant and fine with a lot of softness. Our good friend Chuck, a wine enthusiast, introduced us to this wine maker in London at a tasting and we realised like him that they drink gorgeously.
The Clos du Caillou
The Clos du Caillou was founded in 1895 when Élie Dussaud settled there and created an old cellar. It started as a hunting preserve and this history ironically led to its exclusion from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation upon its creation in the 1930's.
When the government experts arrived at the Clos in 1936 to survey the land for its inclusion in the new appellation, they were met with armed caretakers telling them they were not welcome! This is the reason for the seemingly inexplicable blank spot in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation map.
